Benin: 7.5% Growth, a Record, but 26% of Households Food Insecure

Benin's real GDP grew by 7.5% in 2024, the highest in over two decades, driven by primary and secondary sectors. Despite this, 26% of households faced food insecurity according to a 2022 survey, affecting 398,361 people between March and May 2025. Over 90% of cultivated land relies on rainfed agriculture, with rice imports costing 428.5 billion CFA francs in 2024. Economic growth has increased GDP per capita from 791,222 to 823,747 CFA francs.
