Benin: After Departures, The Democrats Aim to Rebuild on New Foundations

The Democratic Party (LD) held its 2nd congress in Porto-Novo on October 10, following a turbulent period marked by the departure of several members, including Éric Houndété, Jude Lodjou, and over 200 coordinators. Founder Boni Yayi and his son Chabi also left the party in March 2026. Nourénou Atchadé, elected party president, outlined three priorities: restoring internal cohesion, modernizing the organization, and rebuilding trust with the Beninese people.
