Benin: Counterfeit banknotes, cannabis and medicines seized in Houègbo

Five people, including a woman, were arrested in Agbotagon, in the Houègbo district, during police operations from November 3 to 6, 2026. At a house suspected of serving as a gathering place, officers seized 1,780,000 CFA francs in counterfeit banknotes, cut paper, 28 packets of cannabis, SIM cards and motorcycle parts. A second raid at the homes of two brothers uncovered about 1.5 kilograms of cannabis, two kilograms of smuggled medicines, printing plates and blank banknote-sized papers. The brothers reportedly admitted to the alleged offenses during questioning.
