Benin: Houndégnon Faces Major Hearing Before the Supreme Court This Thursday

Louis Philippe Houndégnon, former director general of the National Police, is set to appear before the Supreme Court of Benin on September 24, 2026. His defense has filed a cassation appeal following a decision by the CRIET's appellate chamber regarding charges of electronic harassment and incitement to rebellion. Houndégnon's lawyers contest the regularity of the judicial process and hope the Supreme Court will acknowledge alleged violations of his rights during the trial. He has been in detention since his arrest on November 13, 2024.
