The Beninese Parliament adopted Law No. 2026-16 on the Forest and Wildlife Code on July 14, 2026. The text replaces the previous laws from 1993 and comprises 318 articles across 31 chapters and eight titles. The new code addresses conservation challenges, climate change, and international commitments, aiming to halt the annual loss of 60,000 hectares of forests according to the FAO.
