Benin: Ox sold for 15,000 CFA francs, three suspects arrested in Toffo

Three people were arrested in Toffo, in the village of Zimbènou, in a suspected livestock theft and receiving case. A 15-year-old herder allegedly sold an ox belonging to a victim for an advance payment of 15,000 CFA francs, although the animal is estimated to be worth about 160,000 CFA francs. A 32-year-old butcher was reportedly asked to slaughter it for a graduation ceremony scheduled for November 8, but refused to do so at night. The owner identified the animal and reported that four oxen had gone missing, with losses estimated at 600,000 CFA francs; the suspects are in custody and are expected to appear before the prosecutor in Allada.
