Benin: Terrorism Victims Drop by 78% in One Year According to a Study

The number of terrorism victims in Benin dropped by 78%, from 277 to 81 in one year, according to a report by the Africa Center for Strategic Studies published on September 8, 2026. This decline is attributed to stabilization efforts and security operations by Beninese authorities, while the defense budget has nearly doubled. In contrast, terrorist violence is rising across the continent, with 23,872 deaths linked to terrorist groups, mainly in the Sahel, Somalia, and the Lake Chad basin.
