Benin, Togo, Niger owe Nigeria over N13bn electricity debt

The fourth quarter 2025 report from the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) reveals that Benin, Togo, and Niger have accumulated a debt of $9.55 million, equivalent to N13.07 billion, for unpaid electricity bills. Out of a total invoice of $20.44 million, only $10.89 million was paid, representing a payment performance of 53.28%. Payment performances varied, with companies like Transcorp-SBEE (Ughelli) in Benin recording very low remittances.
