Benue: Governor Alia inaugurates 2027 campaign council and backs re-election

Benue State Governor Hyacinth Alia inaugurated the Tinubu/Alia 2027 Campaign Council in Makurdi on Thursday, naming Citizen Richard Asema as its director-general. He urged APC members to unite and set aside personal grievances, saying re-election would allow his administration to build on progress made with support from President Bola Tinubu and the federal government. Alia cited the recruitment of 9,700 teachers, road construction connecting the state’s 23 local government areas, and the revival of abandoned projects including Taraku Mills and the International Conference Centre. He said about 25% of the road work remained and pledged to consolidate existing achievements rather than start projects from scratch.

Rural police commissioners and the Association of Police and Crime Commissioners have questioned the case for fewer forces; Rowley also points to underinvestment and a fall in police spending from 0.9% to 0.7% of GDP since 2010.
