Benue: Governor Alia inaugurates 2027 campaign council, says re-election will ensure continuity

Benue State Governor Hyacinth Alia inaugurated the Tinubu/Alia 2027 Campaign Council in Makurdi on Thursday, naming Hon. Citizen Richard Asema as director-general. He urged APC members to unite and reconcile, crediting President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the federal government with supporting progress in security, education, healthcare and infrastructure. Alia cited the recruitment of 9,700 primary school teachers, road links across the state’s 23 local government areas and the revival of abandoned projects among his administration’s achievements. If re-elected, he said he would focus on consolidating existing gains rather than starting projects from scratch.

Rural police commissioners and the Association of Police and Crime Commissioners have questioned the case for fewer forces; Rowley also points to underinvestment and a fall in police spending from 0.9% to 0.7% of GDP since 2010.
