Benue NBA urges Alia to sign retirement age bill for magistrates, law officers

The Nigerian Bar Association branches in Makurdi, Gboko, and Otukpo have urged Benue State Governor Hyacinth Alia to approve a bill to extend the retirement age of magistrates and law officers. The bill, passed by the Benue State House of Assembly on May 6, 2026, aims to preserve the expertise of experienced legal practitioners. Chairman of the Makurdi NBA Branch, Joseph Mtemdoo Gbagyo, made the appeal during the opening of the 2026/2027 Benue State Judiciary Legal Year at the High Court Complex in Makurdi.
