Bertoua: Six people implicated in rape and intimate video case

A young woman was allegedly drugged at a snack bar near CENAJES in Bertoua on October 3, 2026, then taken to rooms in the Kano and Mokolo neighborhoods, where she was allegedly sexually assaulted. One of the suspected attackers reportedly filmed the incidents, and the video was later shared on social media. After relatives alerted her to the footage, the victim filed a complaint. The investigation led to the arrest of six people—four men and two women, the latter suspected of helping circulate the video—who were presented to the prosecutor on October 23 and remanded in custody.

Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez said the psychiatric assessment did not change the characterization of the incident as a racist terrorist attack.
