Birth Certificate for 20,000 CFA Francs: Why Things Are Getting Complicated for Nourah Ba

Influencer Mariama Ba, known as Nourah Ba, is in police custody as the Special Cybersecurity Division investigates the authenticity of her birth certificate. She says that in 2023 a civil registry official in Nguidilé, in the Louga region, told her that her previous certificate was invalid and its number belonged to someone else. She says she gave documents to an intermediary, who allegedly provided a new certificate a week later; a request to the Nguidilé municipality is expected to establish how it was issued. If the document is found to be forged or fraudulently obtained, she could face prosecution, and the certificate and documents based on it could be annulled; a complaint by Tahirou Sarr is also part of the case.
