Blank tape levy: Tanzania to pay artistes $0.58m as Kenya’s $1.2m frozen

Tanzania will distribute Tsh1.5 billion ($576,000) in blank tape levy royalties to artistes within weeks, according to Deputy Minister for Information, Culture, Arts and Sports, Hamisi Mwinjuma. This amount comes from the collection of the blank media levy, which was introduced nearly two years ago. Meanwhile, Kenya's collection of Ksh150 million ($1.2 million) is tied up in a court battle.
