Blasts heard in Addis Ababa as Ethiopia conflict widens in the north

Explosions were heard in Addis Ababa as fighting between Ethiopia’s federal forces and a coalition of armed opposition groups expanded in the north. Three diplomatic sources told Reuters that the blasts occurred overnight, shortly after a ban on drone flights was imposed in the capital and surrounding areas. The coalition, which includes seven armed groups such as the TPLF, has carried out drone strikes targeting military sites, aiming to oust Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed’s government. Clashes also occurred in Afar, with government forces advancing toward Mekelle, causing civilians to flee and cutting electricity and internet services.
