Blue Silks: Lawyers petition DSS and PCC over alleged persecution by Supreme Court chief registrar

Nigerian non-litigation lawyers represented by ALDRAP and the Nigerian Law Society have petitioned the Department of State Services and the Public Complaints Commission. They accuse Kabir Akanbi, Supreme Court chief registrar and secretary of the committee that awards Senior Advocate of Nigeria titles, of using his office to persecute them over the Blue Silks rank, an alternative created for non-litigation lawyers. The petitions follow Akanbi’s complaint to the Legal Practitioners Disciplinary Committee against NLS executive secretary Tonye Clinton Jaja and lawyers awarded the rank. The NLS alleges that Akanbi violated sub judice rules by publishing statements in newspapers while lawsuits involving him were pending.
