Residents of Mount Kenya will now benefit from more reliable electricity after KETRACO activated a new 132kV transmission line connecting Nanyuki and Rumuruti. The 86.4 km line was switched on on October 2, 2026, improving power stability and reducing transmission distance to Rumuruti by about 50%, which decreases energy losses. The project, funded by the Kenyan government, the African Development Bank, and India’s Exim Bank, includes overhead and underground cables and aims to support agriculture, manufacturing, and investment in the region.
