Border management: Prefects mobilized to implement national policy

Prefects from Côte d’Ivoire’s border regions and departments are meeting in Yamoussoukro on November 5 and 6, 2026, at the initiative of the National Borders Commission, to examine the National Integrated Border Management Policy, adopted by the Council of Ministers in June 2024. Ibrahima Bayo, director general of Territorial Administration, said the policy encompasses security, mobility, trade, cooperation with neighboring countries and improved living conditions for border communities. He urged prefects to coordinate state services, strengthen border monitoring and promptly report incidents, community tensions and cross-border disputes. The meeting is supported by the ICMPD, the European Union and the Kingdom of Denmark.
