IDF Chief Says Troops Foiled Larger Attack After Killing Two Palestinian Gunmen

Israeli military chief of staff Lieutenant General Eyal Zamir said troops who killed two Palestinian gunmen in the southern West Bank had prevented a potentially larger attack. Friday’s shooting at Judea Junction on Route 35 near Hebron wounded five Israelis, two of them critically. The assailants were armed with an M16 rifle and a pistol, and a substantial quantity of ammunition was found in their vehicle; they were shot dead by officers who responded to the scene. Zamir directed officials to prepare for possible reinforcements in the IDF’s Central Command area, while Israeli forces imposed closures on several Palestinian towns, including Hebron.
