Brain drain: Nigeria risks losing more eye specialists, OSN warns

Nigeria's shortage of eye-care specialists could worsen as more ophthalmologists leave the country. OSN President Dr. Gloria Patrick-Ferife highlighted that the migration of a single specialist could cost the economy about $150,000 annually. She urged the government to increase the employment of ophthalmologists and create conditions that encourage skilled workers to stay, noting that over 24 million Nigerians are affected by visual impairment, with 84% of cases being preventable or treatable.
