Brazil: Used Acarajé Oils Become an Energy Resource

In Salvador, a joint initiative between the municipality, Petrobras, and recycling cooperatives aims to recover used oils from acarajé, a specialty of Bahia. About 3,500 women, known as baianas do acarajé, are encouraged to participate in this program, receiving 3 Brazilian reais per liter of collected oil. The project aims to valorize up to six million liters of used oil per year for energy production.
