Brent crude retreats, but October fuel-price increases remain likely

Brent crude oil prices have retreated in recent days, but this will not shield South Africans from another round of fuel price increases at the start of October. The price remains above $100 per barrel, with forecasts indicating increases of up to R2.78 per litre for petrol and R3.00 per litre for diesel. Mineral and Energy Minister Gwede Mantashe confirmed that no immediate intervention is planned to cushion households and businesses from rising fuel costs.
