Bristol woman wins £127,500 claim for caring for her mother at home

Bern Rogers, from Bristol, has been awarded £127,500 for providing 850 days of care to her mother Sheila, who had dementia. Sheila moved in with her daughter in September 2017 and wanted family care rather than home care or a residential care home. After Sheila died in 2020, Bern was charged with fraud and theft after taking £100,000 from the estate, but a jury acquitted her in 2022. The High Court later found an informal agreement for reasonable payment, and the estate, which was ordered to cover Bern’s legal costs, intends to appeal.
