Bruno Lemarquis appointed deputy head of the UN mission in Afghanistan

Bruno Lemarquis has been appointed deputy special representative to the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan by UN Secretary-General António Guterres on April 28. Prior to this appointment, he served in the Democratic Republic of the Congo since 2022, where he played a key role in humanitarian response amid a prolonged crisis. Approximately 7 million people are internally displaced in the DRC, exacerbated by the activities of armed groups.
