Budget support: Cameroon delays negotiations with the IMF on a new agreement

Cameroon has not formally requested negotiations with the IMF for a new economic and financial programme, although the government plans to raise CFAF 300 billion in budget support in 2027, conditional on a new agreement. Finance Minister Louis-Paul Motaze says the case for resuming talks has been presented to Cameroonian authorities and that the government is awaiting their response, with no timetable given. The previous programme expired in July 2025, and Motaze had already advocated a new agreement at a cabinet meeting on October 30, 2025. The matter was to be submitted to President Paul Biya for arbitration, but the formal process has yet to begin.
