Burkina Faso: Gold collection rises from 457 kg to 40 tons in three years – La Nouvelle Tribune

The National Society for Precious Substances (SONASP) collected 457 kg of gold in 2022 and approximately 40 tons in 2025, with 73.64% coming from artisanal mining in the second half of 2025. The increase in collected quantities does not necessarily indicate higher national production but a greater integration of artisanal gold into official markets. From 2022 to 2025, the mining sector generated around 2,500 billion CFA francs for Burkina Faso, with national gold production reaching 94 tons in 2025. The government implemented a new mining code in 2024 and established SOPAMIB to better control these resources.
