Butembo: Four More Ebola Survivors Leave Matanda Treatment Centre

Four adults—two women and two men—left the Ebola treatment centre at Matanda Secondary Referral Hospital in Butembo on Saturday, October 24, 2026. Their recoveries bring the centre’s total to 29 patients cured since it officially opened on September 23. Survivor Kyakimwa Kavutirwaki Micheline, a clinical psychologist who said she contracted Ebola at her health facility and spent 24 days at the centre, urged the public to take the disease seriously and health workers to follow protective measures. At the Katwa treatment centre, six people were declared cured between October 19 and 23, while three other patients were classified as non-cases.

Rotary president Ange-Isaac Aka said a contribution of 780,000 CFA francs, enough to cover 13 women, could extend screening to 39 women, with a total estimated value of 2.34 million CFA francs. Sandrine Aka and Cirad representative Franck-Ariole N’Guessan stressed the importance of awareness, early detection and medical support.

Uganda orders 21-day quarantine for citizens returning from DR Congo

Uganda is requiring citizens who have travelled to the Democratic Republic of the Congo to quarantine for 21 days at their own expense when they return. Health Minister Chris Baryomunsi announced the measure in Kampala on October 25, as Ebola cases in Kenya and Nigeria raised concerns about travellers passing through Uganda. Uganda declared its Bundibugyo outbreak over on July 28 after recording 20 infections and two deaths, and has strengthened screening at Entebbe airport and land crossings. Baryomunsi disputed that a Ugandan-born woman whose infection was confirmed in Nigeria contracted Ebola during a visit to Uganda; the WHO says it has no information showing that she travelled to the DRC.
