CAF: Patrice Motsepe Announces Departure in 2029, Samuel Eto’o to Succeed Him?

Patrice Motsepe confirmed he will step down as CAF president in 2029 at the end of his second term, which he has stated he does not intend to extend. Elected in March 2021 and re-elected in March 2025, he announced this intention during a July 2026 press conference. Samuel Eto’o, president of the Cameroonian Football Federation and a member of CAF’s executive committee, is mentioned as a possible successor, but no official candidacy has been declared. The succession remains speculative three years before the deadline.
