Cameroon – A grim anniversary – 28 October 2021/28 October 2026: Three young men burned alive at Fondjomekwet chiefdom

On 28 October 2026, five years will have passed since three young men suspected of stealing from the elder brother of Fondjomekwet’s chief were tortured and burned alive at the entrance to the chiefdom in Bandja subdivision. Residents and people described as servants of chief Yves Djoumbissié Kamga were among those implicated. The initial investigations were undermined, and a human rights group called for them to be reopened through complaints and actions in July and August. The Justice and Territorial Administration ministries have been contacted, and a peaceful gathering demanding justice for Simieu is planned for 10 December 2026.
