“As if there had been a war”: Paris wakes up in shock amid unimaginable damage

The morning after urban violence in Paris, residents found burned shared bicycles, smashed storefronts and looted shops, including Roche Bobois and Asics. Cécile Rogue and Anita Gras condemned the scale of the damage, while 78-year-old Mehmet Ozden compared the scene to a war and said residents would bear the cost. The riots overshadowed a protest against the high cost of living held on Saturday, although it remained peaceful in some neighborhoods. Travel organizer Cécile Rogue fears the scenes will harm Paris’s image as a tourist destination.
