Can Carrick survive Man United’s slump and Fernandes fallout?

Manchester United lost 3-0 to Bournemouth, marking the club’s worst league start since 1986 and leaving it one point above the relegation zone, without a win in eight matches in all competitions. After the team’s sixth defeat of the season, Michael Carrick left Old Trafford to chants from the supporters, but his future as manager is uncertain. Club captain Bruno Fernandes, the Professional Footballers’ Association Player of the Year last season, was an unused substitute after criticising Carrick following Wednesday’s 4-1 Champions League defeat to Como. Carrick was appointed permanently in the summer after replacing Ruben Amorim in January and overseeing a temporary improvement in results.
