CAN disowns cleric and reaffirms neutrality ahead of 2027 elections

The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) said Archbishop Chivir Chianson is not its General Secretary and has no mandate to speak on its behalf. In a statement by its president, Archbishop Daniel Okoh, it said Chianson’s group has no institutional connection to CAN and is not authorised to organise political activities in its name. Ahead of the 2027 general elections, CAN reaffirmed that it would not endorse or mobilise support for any party or candidate, while continuing to address national issues and hold leaders accountable. It urged the public and media to verify the affiliations of people presented as CAN representatives.
