Can electric mobility open new business opportunities for Kenyan women?

Spiro and Entrepreneurial Solutions Partners have launched the Women in E-Mobility programme in Rwanda to train women to ride electric motorcycles and build businesses. The first 50 participants began training in October 2026; the pilot aims to support 500 women in Rwanda before expanding to other African markets and reaching 5,000 participants by 2030. Training covers riding, road safety, financial literacy, digital skills and entrepreneurship, alongside access to financing and ride-hailing, delivery and logistics platforms. Women make up just 4% of transport workers in Rwanda, although a 2025 survey in Kigali found that 47.7% of women surveyed would consider becoming motorcycle taxi drivers.
