CAN Urges Church to Hold Government Accountable

Archbishop Daniel Okoh, president of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), urged the Church to hold the government accountable, defend vulnerable people and speak out against injustice. Speaking at CAN’s 50th anniversary celebration in Abuja on Saturday, he called on Christian leaders to address national issues courageously, constructively and based on evidence, without yielding to political interests. He named internally displaced people, out-of-school children, unemployed youths, farmers blocked from their land by insecurity, women facing violence and victims of human trafficking among those whose concerns the Church should address. Okoh cautioned that this responsibility did not mean opposing every government policy or turning the Church into a platform for partisan politics.
