Cape Town’s Ceasefire Project is facing questions about its funding and effectiveness after Pastor Craven Engel said it had assisted more than 400 high-risk young people and reduced violence by 43% in the areas where it operated. Deputy Mayor Eddie Andrews could not provide success data for the programme during a municipal debate last week. The City funded the project for eight years before ending its financial support in 2018; it continues as Ceasefire Lite without City funding. Representatives of 11 parties also debated crime, unemployment, housing and the R114-million N2 safety project.
