Cape Verde: José Maria Neves launches campaign in São Vicente

Two weeks before the November 15 presidential election, incumbent José Maria Neves launched his campaign at a rally in São Vicente. Seeking a second five-year term, he urged voters to continue reforms begun after he took office in 2021 and said Cape Verde could become a development model in health, education, the energy transition and digital transformation. He also called for reforms to raise household incomes, arguing that a country cannot build its competitiveness on low wages. Backed by the PAICV, Neves is seeking support beyond political divisions; the Constitutional Court has approved ten presidential candidates.
