Cape Verde: President José Maria Neves running for re-election

Cape Verdean President José Maria Neves announced his candidacy for a new five-year term in the elections on November 15. At 66 years old, he seeks the support of the African Party for the Independence of Cape Verde (PAICV) that he has led. Nine other candidates have also expressed their intention to run for the presidency, while Neves will need to justify his record in light of social challenges, including youth unemployment in the archipelago of 520,000 inhabitants.
