Cardoso plays down title-defence pressure ahead of Sundowns' crunch Champions League clash

Mamelodi Sundowns coach Miguel Cardoso says the club remains a major force in African football regardless of the pressure to defend its CAF Champions League title. Sundowns claimed their second star last season, ending a 10-year wait, after reaching the final and the semi-finals in the two preceding seasons. Cardoso says the team must stay humble and focus on how it competes. Sundowns face Wiliete in the playoff qualifier’s second leg after a 0-0 draw in Angola.

Maradona doctor was made ‘scapegoat’ for his death, Argentinian court told

Leopoldo Luque’s lawyer, Roberto Rallin, argued in closing statements that the neurosurgeon was innocent and had been made a “scapegoat” over Diego Maradona’s 2020 death. Another defence lawyer, Francisco Oneto, said Maradona’s fatal heart attack was “acute and unpredictable”; prosecutors argue the death was foreseeable and are seeking a 12-year sentence for Luque. Maradona, 60, died of a cardiorespiratory crisis and pulmonary oedema while recovering from surgery for a subdural hematoma. Seven healthcare professionals are on trial over potential negligence connected to his death.

Lamine Camara transfer: “Chelsea have withdrawn and another giant is leading the race”

Chelsea are reportedly no longer pursuing Lamine Camara after his transfer fell through in September and relations with AS Monaco soured. The London club had agreed a €55 million fee, but Monaco withdrew despite a written agreement. Liverpool, long interested in the 22-year-old Senegalese midfielder, could make a move as early as January; Monaco now value him at around €70 million, and his contract runs until 2029. Chelsea are also targeting Bournemouth midfielder Alex Scott and Strasbourg winger Gessime Yassine.

Guédiawaye: Navétanes suspended until further notice to preserve public order

The prefect of Guédiawaye suspended Navétanes across the department from October 21, 2026, until further notice. The decision aims to preserve public order following violence and assaults before and after matches, residents’ complaints, and damage to public and private property. The order cites an ongoing risk of unrest. It follows a suspension announced on October 15 for Zone 2 competitions.
