Chad: Arrested Opponents Placed in Provisional Detention

Eight opponents of President Mahamat Idriss Déby, arrested on Saturday, have been placed in provisional detention and transferred to the Klessoum prison in N'Djaména. The public prosecutor announced the opening of an investigation for criminal association and rebellion. These arrests come a week before a protest march scheduled for May 2, which was banned by the government. The GCAP, the main opposition coalition, has been dissolved by the Supreme Court.
