China: Morocco Breaks World Record for Ammonia Purchases, Surpassing Australia and India

In May 2026, Morocco became the top destination for Chinese ammonia exports with 51,050 tons, as Chinese exports reached a record monthly total of approximately 185,000 tons, a 163.36% increase. Australia, South Africa, and India are among the main buyers. Morocco, still reliant on imports for industrial activities, aims to develop local green ammonia production using renewable hydrogen to reduce dependence. China is also increasing its fertilizer sales globally, especially in Africa.
