Chinese hackers impersonated AI experts to target US policy minds

Chinese hackers affiliated with the group TA419 have been impersonating AI experts in the United States, including Lynne Edwards Parker, a former White House official. Operating since April 2025, they sent seemingly harmless emails to engage targets, then directed them to fake login pages to steal credentials. In February, the same group impersonated a prominent Anthropic employee to target AI policy experts. The report from Proofpoint states these attacks targeted policy experts, defense contractors, universities, and law firms in the US and Japan.
