Why is NASA's flagship spy satellite named after Nancy Grace Roman the 'Mother of Hubble?'

NASA is launching the Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope on August 30, 2026, from the Kennedy Space Center in Florida. Nancy Grace Roman, the first woman to hold an executive position at NASA, is recognized as the 'Mother of the Hubble Space Telescope' for her role in developing astronomical instruments in space. She joined NASA in 1959 and advocated for the use of space telescopes as early as 1962.
