Cholera outbreak in Mbandaka kills 14 and infects 129 across two health zones in a few days

A cholera outbreak has caused 129 cases, 14 deaths and 68 recoveries in the Wangata and Bolenge health zones of Mbandaka, according to a provincial bulletin published on October 30. Bolenge is the hardest-hit area, with 104 cases reported. Health authorities attribute the outbreak to the recent arrival of boats from Kinshasa; about 100 of more than 800 passengers reportedly showed symptoms consistent with cholera. Port health checks in Mbandaka and Bolenge have been strengthened, and health teams urge residents to wash their hands and treat or boil drinking water.

Candidates include paediatrician Richard Pan, running in California’s 6th congressional district; Abdul El-Sayed, in a close Michigan Senate race; and Annie Andrews, who has turned South Carolina’s Senate contest into a battleground. Epidemiologist Eric Feigl-Ding says the political participation is an effort to promote responsible healthcare policies and counter misinformation.

Ebola: New Suspected Cases in Nigeria, Doctor Dies in DR Congo, Saudi Restrictions Target Kenya

Nigeria has identified two more suspected Ebola cases in the country’s northeast; both people have been isolated and laboratory tests are underway, but the cases are not yet confirmed. In the Democratic Republic of Congo, which has reported more than 10,000 cases and 5,000 deaths since May 2026, doctor Marie-France Shogogo died of Ebola in Beni, North Kivu. Saudi Arabia has barred Kenyans from entering and restricted its citizens from traveling to Nairobi because of the outbreak. Kenya’s Health Cabinet Secretary, Aden Duale, objected to the measures, saying the country had handled the Ebola situation well and the threat was minimal.
