Climate: a report warns about the effects of super El Niño on mortality

A report from the Climate Impact Lab at the University of Chicago states that up to 451,000 additional heat-related deaths could occur between June 2026 and February 2027 due to the super El Niño, with the Sahel region in Africa being the hardest hit, experiencing about 66,800 extra deaths. The report highlights that extreme heat, droughts, wildfires, and water shortages are worsened by human-induced climate change. The intense natural phenomenon of El Niño, when it becomes super, can have devastating effects on human health amid global warming.
