Climate in Africa: Four Countries, Including Benin and Côte d’Ivoire, to Receive $690 Million in Funding

The Africa Finance Corporation and the Green Climate Fund launched a $690 million programme on October 30, 2026, at a signing ceremony in South Korea to strengthen climate resilience in Africa. Its first phase covers Angola, Benin, Côte d’Ivoire and Nigeria, supporting projects in clean energy, health, food and water security, and resilient infrastructure. The programme aims to benefit 5.2 million people and is expected to avoid or reduce 5.78 million tonnes of CO₂ equivalent. The GCF is contributing $280 million, alongside substantial co-financing and a parallel trade facility of up to $260 million over a maximum of ten years.
