Climate Shocks: One in Ten Students Experienced Disruptions to Their Education in 2025

In 2025, over 171 million students worldwide experienced disruptions to their education due to extreme climate events, according to a UNICEF study. Storms were the leading cause of these disruptions, affecting 109 million students, followed by floods and heatwaves. Low-income countries are particularly impacted, with three-quarters of affected children living in these regions. UNICEF calls for investments in climate-resilient schools.
