Colombia inaugurates embassy to Israel in Jerusalem

Colombia has opened its embassy in Jerusalem, joining a small group of countries supporting Israel’s claim to sovereignty over the contested city. Colombian Foreign Minister Omar Bula Escobar stated that relations between Colombia and Israel should never have been broken and that Bogota is taking concrete steps to restore diplomatic ties. Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar welcomed the move, calling it an important date for Israel. This shift reflects a major policy change from the previous government, which severed ties with Israel in 2024.
