The Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (Comesa) warned that tighter EU asylum and migration rules could leave more migrants stranded in African transit countries. At the Russia-Africa summit, which closed in Moscow on October 29, Félix Tshisekedi urged Vladimir Putin and African leaders to build a partnership focused on peace, security and jobs. He said the DRC seeks lasting peace and that diversifying partnerships is intended to preserve the country's freedom of decision, not to choose sides. Kinshasa called on Russia, a permanent member of the UN Security Council, to support the implementation of resolutions 2773 and 2808 on ending hostilities in eastern DRC, the M23's withdrawal and an end to Rwandan support for the rebels. Tshisekedi also outlined economic priorities including energy, infrastructure, food security and local mineral processing.
