Consulate demands justice over alleged attacks, deaths of Nigerians in South Africa

The Nigerian Consulate General in Johannesburg has called for justice following the deaths of three Nigerians in separate incidents across South Africa between September 18 and 21, 2026. Kenechukwu Igwemmadu died after allegedly jumping from a building in Bloemfontein while fleeing police harassment, Olaniyi Olaleye Olatunde was shot and died at Mamelodi Hospital after an argument at a Pretoria nightclub, and Christian Hillary Nnaemeka died after an alleged assault during an encounter with a South African politician and his team in Ekurhuleni. The consulate also recalled the February death of Emeka Clement Uzor during a confrontation with a reality TV crew. The consulate urges proper investigation and emphasizes that suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
