Control of State Energy Costs: the DGE Advocates for Suitable Financing Mechanisms

The General Directorate of Energy (DGE) in Ivory Coast held a workshop in Grand-Bassam on September 24-25, 2026, to discuss financing for energy audits, renovations, and sustainable management of public buildings. Energy consumption was estimated at 532 GWh in 2025, costing around 57 billion CFA francs, making it a significant financial burden for the state. An interministerial decree from April 23, 2024, made energy audits mandatory, identifying 79 high-energy-consuming buildings for audits and renovations. The DGE emphasizes that regulatory measures alone are insufficient and calls for appropriate financing mechanisms to ensure effective implementation of recommendations.
